my Dave Buell moment
I'm very excited to make this posting. I've got some good content from the past few days to share w/ you. Without further ado...
My sister moved into a new apartment last weekend...she lives in Dallas. I think this is the 5th time she has moved in the last 2 years (no joke). Best part of this is that I haven't had to help w/ one single move...i guess that's one benefit of her living in different regions of the country (although one person I know considers Dallas part of the mid-west, but i'm digressing...that's a funny story in itself).
NFL - surprise, surprise, I went 1-1 last weekend in my picks for the playoffs, which brings me to 5-5 for the 2009 NFL playoffs. The Cardinals won again, which makes me very happy since Fitzgerald is an absolute stud, oh, and I've bet on them every week. I also received great news this morning when I got to work....the Cards opened as 7-point underdogs! I'm so pumped to bet on them in the Super Bowl. I thought the line was going to be around 4, maybe 5, and I was already leaning towards taking them...now I'm sold. Even if they lose, I would go 3-1 on them in the playoffs, so I feel obligated to take them anyway since they've been good to me.
IU - I actually was offered a great ticket for this game by my buddy Scott, but unfortunately I had to turn him down due to a family x-mas on Saturday and then being dragged to a wedding reception where I knew no one on Saturday night. Dave went w/ Scott instead and he summed it up best...."they are even worse in person. They're horrible." (but maybe not as horrible as this...) So, maybe I really didn't miss out on anything by not going. They are now 0-5 in the conference as well as riding an 8-game losing streak overall. need I say that the 0-16 perfect season is still in tact??
Enough about sports. Today, Tuesday Jan 20th, was an interesting day and one that i'll probably remember the rest of my life for many reasons. Yeah, Obama got inaugurated and I did hear his speech during lunch, but I think I may remember today for two other reasons. First, I'm still taking our front-desk receptionist to work (yeah, it sucks, but i'm a nice guy). We were talking about Obama's upcoming inauguration and the historical impact, then she started telling me about her first presidential memory, which involved Eisenhower. Anyway, she then said something about where she was when JFK was shot and turned me to and said "Where were you when JFK was....oh, you might have been too young." I about drove into a tree! Too young??? hell, that was 18 years before I was conceived. My response was "Well, my Dad was 11 and he was drinking out of a water fountain at his elementary school when it was announced over the PA." So, obviously, i had to tell about 5 co-workers immediately when I got to work.
Second memorable moment of the day was at this networking event I went to tonight for the firm, one of the bankers that was there asked me, has anyone ever told me you sound like Matthew McConaughey. Now for those of you who know me, you may know that if I had to have a man crush on any actor, it would be McConaughey. So I'd like to officially declare this as my second (and best) Dave Buell moment. To educate my other readers, a Dave Buell moment is when you get told you look like such and such actor/actress/celebrity/athlete. Dave has been told on many occasions, and a few times in my presence, that he looks like Tom Cruise. This delights Dave to no end and he also knows that it infuriates a few of his friends. My past "Dave Buell moments" have only included people saying I look like Lance Armstrong, so you can imagine my joy to be compared to someone else. So, even though I was told i just sound like McConaughey and not necessarily look like him, I'm still going to take it and run w/ it....
Well I think tax season has officially begun - I do have to work this weekend, so that sucks, but hey, that's what i get paid for. I leave you w/ this video, brought to my attention by my roommate, my friend, and the only guy I know to get two tickets in less than 5 minutes, Mr. Matt Taylor. All you 24 fans enjoy this
