Busy Season - Day 1

Ok, so busy season/tax sesason doesn't really get busy for me until the 3rd week of January, however, there was just something different in the air when my alarm went off this morning. It's tough going back to work after the extended vacations around Xmas and New Years, especially knowing the next 13 weeks are going to be my Hell equivalent. (Oh, and that something different in the air feeling was actually the smell of my cat's puke that he conveniently decided to do outside my bedroom door. Apparently it's his way of demonstrating that he dislikes me sleeping w/ my door closed.)

So i get to work and my new computer, which is equipped w/ Vista for business, decides to not be compatible w/ essentially every network program and function, except for the error messages and "not responding" functions. So that was a waste of 2 hours. One highlight for the workday and 1 big negative. highlight was Qdoba for lunch, which might actually get me through tax season this year (we didn't have one open near our office last year). Second highlight was when Mo, who is dating one of my good friends, sent out her new v-card w/ his house address as her address. I knew they had moved in together, but it was just made me chuckle a bit when I saw his house as her new address.

The big negative...i was asked to drive our 63 year old front desk receptionist (give or take 15 years) to work for the next few weeks. I think this has been the first real negative of living in Broad Ripple. so it probably won't be that bad, but my morning commute is where i reflect on the day ahead and gather my sanity before i step into job mode....this could negatively impact my routine, but i'll get through it.

The Colts playoff game on Saturday night, let me tell you about it. We sucked. that is all. I had a prime opportunity to start working on New Years Goal #1, which was to start drinking scotch/whiskey this year. However, I didn't have any at the house, so after some beers, we then switched to rum when it was apparent the Colts were going to flush the game down the shitter. My first few life experiences w/ alcohol involved rum, but then I discovered beer (aka - had no $ in college) and never really looked back. I forgot that I actually liked rum, so that was a nice refresher.

IU had a shaky start to it's quest to go 0-16 in the Big 10....shaky in the sense that they actually showed signs of playing as a scrappy team w/ nothing to lose, which we all know can be dangerous team to deal w/. They actually showed aspirations of winning on the road at Iowa. So, needless to say, i'm a little worried that this 0-16 feat may not happen. Some of you may be wondering why I want them to go 0-16, especially since I'm an IU fan. To clarify, i don't want them to go 0-16....this is more of a reverse psychology thingy, so you get my drift. However, they could be first team to go from worst to first in the Big 10 once their #1 rated 2009 recruiting class gets to town next fall and they dominate the Big 10 next year. So that'd be some nice history, except for the whole "last place" portion of it that would occur this year.

Cubs signed Milton Bradley today, who apparently can still put up good #'s. i've never really liked this guy because he always seems to be hurt or is a clubhouse cancer, but I'm obligated to give him a chance now that he'll be suiting up on the Northside.
